![]() With the Blackhole plug-in, any instrument in your DAW can warp acoustic space and time. We’ve now perfected the galactic sounds of the Blackhole reverb in native plug-in form. These presets cover spaces as small as a room and as large as space itself. Included with Blackhole is a carefully curated set of 50 presets that serve as a launchpad for your explorations. In short, Blackhole is destined to be one of those tools that you turn to time and again when reality just isn’t enough.īlackhole was designed to give you extensive control, allowing you to craft your own signature sounds. Whether you’re at the event horizon or closer to home, Blackhole will inspire and amaze while its intuitive controls will allow you to add that special something to your tracks without a degree in rocket science. While it’s true Blackhole is capable of creating space-warping special effects and drones, it’s also capable of creating musical and subtle effects you’ll find useful for highlighting key instruments or painting a backdrop for your mix. At small sizes, those very same qualities can add an angelic sheen to vocals or turn a simple drum track into an otherworldly rhythm section. At large sizes, its soft attack and lingering, harmonic tails allow it to really shine on guitars, strings, and pads. Our Blackhole ® reverb breaks the rules by allowing you to create virtual spaces that could never exist in reality (or at least the one we inhabit). Gameplay streamers may find that option to be better, though, as it will make routing audio in complex situations very easy. Most reverbs are earth-bound and constrained by the physics of the real world. The expensive, albeit a very handy way to do this, is to use Rogue Amoeba’s Loopback, but I found that solution to be way too expensive for what I had in mind. I was trying to use Audio Hijack to do this at first, but turns out that it can only record stuff. I hope you got something out of this guide. BlackHole seems to be a functional alternative to SoundFlower, and they sure deserve your donation, if you get your virtual audio routing set up using BlackHole. It’s no longer a reliable option for macOS. SoundFlower used to be the best way to do this, but it hasn’t been updated in years. You don’t have to settle for just Ableton Live as your audio source application, you can add Chrome, Spotify or other apps too, if you want to play some reference songs, for example. You may want to have separate system-wide settings, and choose the output in Ableton Live differently, according to your needs. Virtual devices are shown in the list along with physical devices. Skype and other applications follow this setting by default. You can then choose the settings from the macOS audio input and output settings, through the System Preferences, or the quick dialog, alt-clicking the speaker symbol in the top right corner of macOS.Īlt-clicking the audio symbol in macOS lets you choose the input and output devices. If this is the case, then you might want to select the default device, since it will then listen to the system-wide settings. Skype may not see all of your virtual devices as you have set them up in the Audio MIDI setup dialog in macOS. You will have to your application to listen to a virtual audio device – in this case, BlackHole 16ch virtual audio device. In Skype, Zoom, Slack and many others, you can manually choose which audio device is used to record audio. Adjust microphone settings in your conference calling application This will enable you to speak to others (or sing live) while you’re playing stuff from Ableton. Make sure you have a speech/vocal recording channel in Ableton Live, which is armed (recording enabled), and that it’s directly monitoring the audio (“Monitor” set to “Auto”). ![]()
